The Many Valuable Benefits of Reiki
Thu, 13 November 2014
Reiki is a very simple hands-on healing process that triggers the body’s natural healing abilities. This ancient and beautiful Japanese practice is one of the oldest healing systems around, using energy to balance the body and mind, often producing profound effects.
At Acorn to Oak we teach all levels of Reiki, providing training courses for those looking to using it as a self-healing tool, or to treat family and friends – Reiki I; to offer treatments as Reiki practitioners – Reiki II; or to follow our Reiki Master & Teacher Pathway, during which you will learn all aspects of energetic healing and attain a high level of energetic management, as well as being equipped to teach Reiki to others.
General wellbeing
Reiki can only do good, and interestingly, one of the greatest things about this complimentary therapy is that you do not have to be ill to experience the benefits. In fact, Reiki can help in a number of non-health related ways including:
- Brings about inner peace and harmony
- Enhances energy levels
- Stress reduction and deep relaxation
- Offers relief during emotional distress and sorrow
- Promotes a calmer response to life’s challenges
- Treats anxiety and depression
- Supports meditation
- Dissolves energy blocks
- Aids insomnia
- Clears the mind and improves mental focus
- Accelerates the body’s self-healing ability
- Supports the immune system
- Helps spiritual growth and emotional cleansing
- Helps with low self esteem and poor self confidence
- Promotes creativity
and the list goes on…
Health conditions Reiki can treat
When receiving a treatment to help with specific health conditions, Reiki works by directing energy to the source of the problem, rather than directly on the symptoms of the problem. There may be symptomatic relief and often there is a general feeling of enhanced wellbeing. This occurs as the receiver’s energy levels increase and support them to gain insights into ways they might help themselves to improve their health. Therefore, it’s important to note that Reiki does not provide a miraculous cure but can be effective as part of a long-term lifestyle change. Although at this time, the evidence for most of these benefits is anecdotal, information is building and reported cases of vast improvements are becoming commonplace. Along with general pain management Reiki can also help with health problems and conditions such as:
- Blood pressure
- Headaches and migraines
- Asthmatic symptoms
- Skin conditions
- Colds and flu
- Ulcers
- Arthritis and sciatica
- Back problems
- Menopausal symptoms
- ADD/ADHD
- Autism/developmental problems
- Dietary problems
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome and digestive complaints
- End of life care
and many more…
Working hand in hand with traditional medicine and supporting health care
Reiki does not have to be a standalone treatment – it is truly a complementary modality. For example, it can help to speed up recovery from surgery or long-term illness, reducing side effects from treatments such as chemotherapy or assisting with pregnancy issues. Reiki is safe and far from interfering with medical treatments, it’s often used alongside them to offer support, expand treatment options and provide an alternative approach.
What’s involved in a treatment?
For those who are entirely new to Reiki, it helps to understand a little about what actually happens during a session. To receive a Reiki treatment you can be seated or even standing although Reiki is generally given as you lie fully clothed on a treatment bed or table. The practitioner places hands lightly on or just above your head and body at regular intervals. The positions are held for three to ten minutes depending on how much Reiki the client needs at each point. The whole treatment usually lasts around 30-45 minutes but may take longer depending on individual cases. What people experience during a treatment varies, however feelings of deep relaxation and a calming, glowing radiance are usually felt by most. Some even drift off to sleep! You may choose to have regular sessions or go with a more adhoc approach to treatments, depending on your own lifestyle. At times of particular challenge regular, even weekly Reiki treatments are recommended.
Being a highly flexible treatment, Reiki can be carried out almost anywhere! At Acorn to Oak we have a number of qualified practitioners who offer Reiki on a one-to-one basis or through Reiki shares; sessions where small groups offer treatments to each other, generally in an informal setting, and often with a cuppa and cake!
